Children With Cancer UK Charity Ball 2014 │ Kings Head Hotel Darlington Charity Photography│
3 years ago I was asked to photograph a charity ball for a local Children With Cancer UK charity fundraiser, Gillian Clason. I jumped at the chance, as I wanted to give something back to the community. I have photographed each ball since then. This years took place on November 29th at the Kings Head Hotel in Darlington, and the theme was Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends.
Gillian has been fundraising for Children With Cancer UK for 5 years and is a true inspiration. This was taken from her fundraising page:
"Most of you know I am crazy and a bit partial to a marathon or 2. I run in memory of little Henry Valks who sadly lost his battle with leukaemia in 2009 aged just 3.5 years. In the last 5 years I have raised over £51000 for Children with Cancer and Henry, helped greatly by the Henry Valks Memorial Rugby Tournament organised by Henry's parents. In 2010 I ran the Edinburgh marathon in 3.35 and in 2011 I took on a double challenge and ran the London Marathon in 3.19 and New York in 3.22. In 2012, I ran London again in 3.09 and also cycled London to Paris which was as amazing experience. 2013 saw me run the Paris marathon in 3.07, cycled in nightrider and Ride 100 and ran my 8th consecutive Great North Run. I sent the charity £20426 for 2013. I want to carry on fundraising until a cure is found so no family has to go through what Henry's mum and dad did. Henry was so brave throughout his illness, as were his family after his sad death and it is an honour to run in his memory and hopefully one day, I will be able to make a difference with the money raised. In 2014, I ran the London Marathon and again cycled in Ride 100, ran my 9th Great North run and then ran the Berlin Marathon. The end of the year will see me host my 3rd Children with Cancer Charity Ball. I am grateful for any donations/sponsorship and in 2014 we have already topped the £50k I had hoped for.. 2015 is already looking busy with the Boston Marathon, the Edinburgh marathon, ride 100 and my 10th Great North Run."
During the night there was an auction for various prizes from overnight stays, gps running watches to signed memorabilia from David Haye and Darlington football club. Entertainment on the night was provided by singer Amy Purvis and disco by LJM Entertainment.
The night was a huge success and Gillian raised over £4700!! This means she has raised over £60,000 so far for the charity. On the night she was awarded the charity's first Golden Running Vest!
